2015--NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Carmel Knolls is developing a Neighborhood Watch program following meetings with Donna Galletti (Sheriff's office) in 2014) .  A CKPOA Neighborhood Watch committee has been formed to determine how to divide the neighborhood areas into easily accessible units of 10-12 homes, with "block captains" for each. These block captains would ideally have phone and email or text contacts for each home in his/her jurisdiction so that residents could be notified in the event of an emergency, major issue or concern. Please contact Valerie Hunken (CKPOA board secretary) if you would like to be a block captain. We will  publish the names of block captains as soon as we have identified them.

2015--FIRE SAFETY

Fire saftey is one of the main issues facing Carmel Knolls residents.  Brush fires from lightning strikes, cookouts, cigarettes, etc. during this drought could spread quickly and have disastrous consequences for the entire neighborhood.

On the west, Hatton Canyon side, County fire personnel would respond to a fire emergency. On the east, valley side, there is uncertainty about property boundaries, disagreement over county assistance in case of fire, as well as concerns about how to pay to clear the brush if there is no funding from the county.

Celeste Akkad, Vice President of CKPOA, has made contact with the Fire Council of Monterey County, and is attending their monthly meetings to be able to link us to efforts elsewhere in the county to raise funds and grant monies to address these fire concerns. She is in contact also with Missy Sepulvado, Grant manager for Carmel Valley Regional Shaded Fuel Break, on these same issues.  Doug Smith, board member-at-large, has access to county maps and is making them available to help us ascertain property lines and boundaries along the east canyon.

For more information on fire safety, please go to Cypress Fire for more information on this important issue.

2014--BYLAWS UPDATED

In December 2014, the CKPOA board updated the Association bylaws while preserving the language and intent of the original document as much as possible. The move is part of a larger effort to align board and community practices with current realities and best practices elsewhere. The most recent version is linked here.

2014--DECEMBER CKPOA PARTY

Outgoing CKPOA president Carol Pendergast and husband Bill opened their home to the neighborhood December 6, 2014 to celebrate a year of community accomplishmets and acknowledge the contributions of members retiring from the board: David Churchill, and Dave Evans, both indefatigable champions of the community with 40 years of service between them. Approximately 35 people attended and enjoyed lively conversation, good food and holiday punch.
